Brief biography of Thomas Baer
Thomas Baer received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering in 1975 from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he had previously earned the B.S., M.S., and E.E. degrees. He served a postdoctoral traineeship at the University of Connecticut Health Center and then was a Research Staff Member at Haskins Laboratories (a speech research institution) from 1976 to 1989. He has been a Senior Research Associate at University of Cambridge since 1989. His research interests have covered a wide range of areas in speech and hearing, most recently focussing on problems associated with speech perception by people with hearing impairment. Dr. Baer is a member of the I.E.E.E. and a fellow of the Acoustical Society of America.
