ISH2012

16th INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON HEARING
23-27 July, 2012 – St John’s College, Cambridge, UK

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The emphasis of the symposium will be Basic Aspects of Hearing: Physiology and Perception. The meeting will consist of approximately 60 oral presentations and a small number of posters. The deadline for submission of abstracts has now passed.

The symposium proceedings will be published by Springer (New York) as a book with the provisional title "Basic Aspects of Hearing: Physiology and Perception." The tentative publication date for the book is summer 2013. Poster presentations will not be included in the book. The book will be published as part of the series Advances in Experimental Medicine and Biology, which will mean that the chapters will be indexed in PubMed.

The conference will be complemented by a social programme introducing some of the local characteristics of this historical part of the world.

Symposium attendants must register for the symposium before 2nd April 2012. This deadline will be strictly enforced.

Important: Please register for this symposium only if your attendance has been agreed by the ISH2012 organizers. You cannot attend without this agreement, and if you register without the agreement, you might not get all of your money back!

We have managed to make the costs lower than originally anticipated. The following options are available:

1. Delegate with Single Occupancy Accommodation, all meals, tea, coffee and social events

Cost: £719.01

2. Delegate with Double Occupancy Accommodation, all meals, tea, coffee and social events

Cost: £673.85

3. Delegate Partner in Double Occupancy Accommodation with breakfast, dinner and social events

Cost: £578.05

Morning coffee, lunch and afternoon tea are not included

4. Delegate Partner in Double Occupancy Accommodation with breakfast only

Cost: £340.20

No other meals and no social events included

The fee for options 1 and 2 includes all costs (except for your travel). Specifically it includes:

1.      Ensuite accommodation in a twin room in St John’s College, for Sunday night, July 22nd 2012, to Friday morning, July 27th 2012.

2.      Full English breakfast, lunch and dinner from Monday, July 23rd 2012 to the end of symposium (Friday, July 27th 2012 after lunch), including the banquet.

3.      Tea and coffee during breaks.

4.      Printed programme and papers submitted (on memory stick) at beginning of symposium.

5.      Symposium book mailed to your address (in 2013).

6.      Symposium group photo.

7.      Access to all social programme activities.

8.      Internet access in your room (bring an ethernet cable).

9.      Wi-fi in the accommodation areas.

The fees do not include the costs of transportation from any of the airports to St. John’s (Cambridge) and back.

 


 

Paper submission                                                                                                                                    Home

The guidelines for manuscript preparation are available from the link below. Please follow them carefully. The editors will return any manuscript that does not conform to the format required.

Please submit the first version of your manuscript by e-mail to (cambridge.ish2012@gmail.com). Please, write "ISH2012: Manuscript submission" in the subject field of your e-mail. The manuscript submission deadline is May 15th 2012 and will be strictly enforced.

The first version of your paper should preferably have figures embedded in the text and be submitted in pdf format (preferred) or WORD format. This version will be distributed in electronic form (on a memory stick) to all participants. There will be a brief opportunity to make minor revisions to papers after the meeting, but final versions must be submitted by August 31st, 2012. For the final version, submission should be via the publisher’s web site (instructions to follow later). For the final version the text should be submitted as a WORD document, and each figure should be submitted as a separate file.

Posters                                                                                                                     Home

Posters will be on display during the whole symposium. Authors are encouraged to put their posters up on Monday, 23rd July at 13:00 h.

Poster size: Portrait format, maximum 90 cm wide by 120 cm deep.

Papers presented as posters will not be published in the book.

Following the tradition of past ISH symposia, the papers associated with the oral communications will be published in a book.

The book will be published as part of the series "Advances in Experimental Medicine and Biology", which will mean that the chapters will be indexed in PubMed.

Directions
                                                                                                                Home

The closest airport is London Stansted (STN). It is mostly served by flights to and from mainland Europe, Ireland and elsewhere in the UK. Another small airport relatively close by is London Luton (LTN). London also has two major international airports, Heathrow and Gatwick, serving destinations worldwide including North America and parts of Asia. Heathrow is closer to Cambridge than Gatwick.

Taxis – A number of local companies provide pre-booked, comfortable taxi services to and from all of the above airports to Cambridge. These include Cambridge Premier Chauffeurs  http://www.cpchauffeurs.co.uk/  and Kenway Chauffeurs http://kenwaycars.org/. The official site for all registered taxi services is http://www.cambridge.co.uk/Travel_and_Tourism/Cars_and_Vans/Taxis_and_Chauffeurs/. If you are travelling with a group of people, this option is definitely worth considering. If you book, a person with a sign will be waiting to pick you up when you emerge into the arrivals hall.

 

If you fly to Stansted

Bus – There is a regular service (every two hours) from Stansted to Cambridge and it takes approximately 50 minutes depending on the traffic. Website http://www.nationalexpress.co.uk/

Train – There is also a regular train service from Stansted Airport to Cambridge, which is usually quicker than the bus, taking approximately 30 minutes and is a direct service. Website http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/

Taxi – Driving time to Cambridge is approximately 40 minutes.

 

If you fly to Luton

Bus – There is a regular service (every two hours) from Luton to Cambridge and it takes approximately one and a half hours depending on the traffic. Note, late night buses go less often and take longer; check the website first. Website http://www.nationalexpress.co.uk/

Train – There is NO DIRECT train service from Luton Airport to Cambridge. Indirect journeys are about 2 hours 10 minutes, involve 3 changes and are via London. Website http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/

Taxi – Driving time to Cambridge is approximately 1 hour 10 minutes.

 

If you fly to Heathrow

Bus – There is a regular service (every hour) from Heathrow (Central Bus station) to Cambridge and it takes approximately two hours 50 minutes (from the Central Bus station which serves Terminal 1and 3), but this varies depending on the traffic. From Terminal 4, the bus to Cambridge goes every two hours and takes approximately 3 hours 30 minutes. Note, late night buses go less often; check the website first.  Website http://www.nationalexpress.co.uk/   There are free train and bus connections between the different terminals at Heathrow Airport http://www.heathrowairport.com/.

Train – There is NO DIRECT train service from Heathrow Airport to Cambridge. Indirect journeys take about 2 hours, involve 2 changes and are via London. Website http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/

Taxi – Driving time to Cambridge on Sunday is approximately 1 hour 40 minutes.

 

If you fly to Gatwick

Bus – There is a regular service from Gatwick Airport to Cambridge. From the North Terminal the duration is about 3 hours 55 minutes (no change) or 4 hours 40 minutes (1 change) depending on your departure time.  From the South Terminal the duration is about 4 hours 5 minutes (no change) or 5 hours 10 minutes (1 change) depending on your departure time.  Website http://www.nationalexpress.co.uk/

Companions are more than welcome. Cambridge is a lovely town, with plenty of sightseeing, shopping and cultural events.  All social activities will be open to companions. Companions can choose between two options:


Option 1: The fee is about £578.05 and includes:


1.      Ensuite accommodation in a twin room, to be shared with the partner attending the symposium, for Sunday night, July 22nd 2012, to Friday morning, July 27th 2012.


2.      Full English breakfast and dinner (but no lunch), from Monday, July 23rd 2012 to the end of symposium (Friday, July 27th 2012 after lunch), including the banquet. Breakfast and dinner will be at St John’s with all symposium attendants.


3.      Access to all social programme activities.



Option 2: The fee is £340.20 and includes:


1.      Ensuite accommodation in a twin room, to be shared with the partner attending the symposium, for Sunday night, July 22nd 2012, to Friday morning, July 27th 2012.


2.      Full English breakfast from Monday, July 23rd 2012 to the end of symposium (Friday, July 27th 2012 after lunch).

Note, option 2 excludes lunch, dinner, banquet, and access to social activities.


The companion fees need to be paid at the same time and via the same website as those for the symposium attendant.
